Another day, Another Dollar $$

Sunday
This morning,
my mind drifted somewhat on its own accord to a certain funny episode, which occurred about few years ago.
It was end of the month. You know what that means? Payday. Spirits are high, salaries are due, and every system had better behave—or else chaos.
That morning, a JIRA ticket slipped into my queue. It was from payroll. Azure Virtual Desktop wasn’t working, and someone—let’s call her "She Who Pays Everyone"—was locked out of her SaaS tool.
Sounds simple, right? Except...
• I was OFF duty.
• My manager (the only other Azure VD guru) was on a well-timed vacation to another dimension.
• I had no laptop.
• My personal and work phones were ringing like a Nokia in 2005—MD calling, IT panicking, and payroll holding pitchforks.
• To make it better, I was kilometers away, enjoying my one-day break like a normal human. But alas, IT never sleeps.
Then I remembered… I had Anydesk on my phone. Cue superhero transformation music.
There I was, hunched over my phone, remote-logging into my work PC like some digital ninja. I opened the portal, accessed the Virtual Desktop, and guess what? The SaaS app was frozen like Elsa in a snowstorm. Classic.
I logged the user out from the backend, kicked the gremlins out of the system, and boom—she was back online.
Moments later, she called and said, “Sunday, I owe you dinner. You’re a lifesaver!”
But this story isn’t about the problem or even the solution.
It’s about the power of having a remote desktop tool on your phone. You never know when you’ll need to turn into IT’s version of Thor—with your mobile device as Mjölnir.
Tools like Anydesk, TightVNC, RustDesk, UltraVNC, TEAMVIEWER… they’re not just apps. They’re emergency capes.
Question to my fellow IT folks:
What remote desktop tool has saved your day? And which one do you trust most when you're far from your desk but still expected to save the world?
